Coronation Street star Sair Khan confirms shock return to filming – just months after welcoming first child with partner Nathan Chilton

Coronation Street star Sair Khan delighted her fans when she confirmed she was returning to the ITV soap on Tuesday – just months after giving birth to her first child.

The Leeds-born actress, 36, who has played Ayla Nazir since 2014, welcomed her baby in April with partner Nathan Chilton.

She worked for most of her pregnancy, after announcing the good news in December last year, and ended up leaving filming just days before she welcomed the tot.

Now, in an exciting update, Sair has confirmed that she is preparing to return to the cobbles.

The soap star posted a picture of the Coronation Street script and added a branded mug to her Instagram stories, with the caption ‘I am Backstreet’ alongside the date ‘September 2024’.

Viewers saw Sair’s character getting close to his boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) before he decided to leave Weatherfield for a job in Dublin.

Fans will have to wait a little longer to find out what’s in store for Ayla when she returns.

In May, Sair shared the news of the birth of her baby boy, sharing a series of heart-warming pictures of the couple grieving over their tiny newborn.

In the lengthy caption, she opened up about motherhood and her pregnancy, giving fans a detailed insight into her ‘rollercoaster’ labour.

In the carousel, she shared a sweet picture of Nathan with the tiny eleven gently on his chest.

‘It’s here!,’ she wrote with joy.

‘Okay, when I said ‘Spring awakening’ in my last post I didn’t mean ‘keep’ me awake. The new parent zombie look is definitely not a thing.

‘More importantly this little boy is simply amazing. Very serious and curious about the world. He is extremely strong and so resilient for joining me on the real rollercoaster that was 22 hours of our labor. We didn’t get the birth I was hoping for but that’s okay (two pool births, no water birth).

She explained her labor experience: ‘How can I describe the labor experience… it was raw and primal and I’m glad I kept an open heart and no expectations because I had no idea what a trip i had. was in your

‘And since then we’ve been endlessly trying to figure out vomit and vomit and tears while dealing with sleep deprivation and the small matter of trying to heal my own body too.

A huge tribute to all the new Mums and Dads trying to get through those first few days and weeks.

‘Somehow we’re on the brink and I’m so grateful for our healthy baby, Nathan and the incredible support network around us for their patience, generosity and late night voice notes that kept me going.

‘Anyone else felt a DJ beat coming from your breast pump at 3am or is that delirium?!,’ she joked.

She finished with a word of advice for new mums: ‘I’ll be able to share all the bits and bobs I found very useful in the early days. There is definitely a sound machine up there, can’t believe we did without it those first few days!

‘And also eevvvvery-something for soothing yourself during breastfeeding! Lanolin balm, Silver Shields, silicone shields. For now it’s back to the cuteness, cuddles and new intoxicating baby smell that is making it all worthwhile. Super x.’

Sair revealed her pregnancy with a happy announcement on her Instagram page in December.

The soap star looked radiant in the photos as she cuddled up to her belly as she posed with her boyfriend Nathan.

Along with the bits, she wrote: ‘Hi… It’s been a while since I’ve posted here which has been a real mix of emotions.

‘With everything that is happening around the world it didn’t feel like the right time to share it but we also know that it’s okay to keep hope and pray for peace while acknowledging that we feel blessed and grateful.’

Sair addressed Nathan’s health issues in the post, noting that he had chondroblastoma surgery – a procedure to remove a tumor – on his pelvis in 2022.

She said: ‘Last year was a challenging time for both of us with Nathan’s chondroblastoma surgery on his pelvis. The road to recovery is long and there are still many obstacles ahead as we deal with the spread of the tumor to her lungs.

‘Life can be difficult and there will always be challenges to overcome but there are also important lessons to be learned and gifts to be nurtured. We are excited about the arrival of Baby Chilton in Spring 2024.’

Sair and Nathan went public with their romance in 2021 but have been together since late 2020 after being introduced by a mutual friend.

Speaking about Nathan’s surgery, Sair said she was ‘so proud’ of her partner at the time, writing: ‘Nathan has been on a long journey to have his pelvic chondroblastoma removed.

‘He is documenting the story on YouTube with the aim of helping others going through similar life changes.

‘It can be a very isolating experience. I am very proud of being so open and vulnerable in the hope that others will not feel so alone.’

Before dating Nathan, Sair was in a two-year relationship with Emmerdale actor Simon Lennon whom she split from in 2019.
