Dezeen Awards 2024 sustainability longlist revealed

Dezeen has announced the 81 projects longlisted for this year’s Dezeen Awards in the sustainability categories, including projects by SOM, Tarkett, Bolon, Mater and Smartvoll.

The 81 projects on the longlist, up for awards in six different sustainability project categories, are from studios located across 20 different countries including Rwanda, Australia, Brazil, Germany, India and Austria.

The UK are the three best represented studio countries with 16 entries on the longlist with the US and Germany tied with eight each.

Among the sustainability longlist is a complex tower that uses self-shaped wood in Germany, a multi-purpose bright red wooden building in Berlin and a collection of furniture made from waste products designed by Patricia Urquiola for Mater.

The Dezeen Awards 2024, in partnership with Bentley, revealed all the longlisted projects this week. The architecture, interior and design longlists were announced earlier this week.

“Bentley is excited to partner with a world-class awards program that celebrates such high-quality architecture and design but also promotes innovation, helping to push the industry towards a better and more sustainable world,” a said Chris Cooke, head of design collaboration. at Bentley.

“This year’s material innovation category stood out for this reason. Projects on the longlist showcase cutting-edge technologies such as bio-based materials and the use of AI to optimize the use of materials, and provide insight into how great design can help solve to find some of the big problems we all face.”

Longlisted projects were selected from over 4,130 entries from 82 countries for the seventh edition of our awards programme, which continues to promote design excellence and showcase innovation from architects and designers around the globe.

The next phase of the Dezeen Awards 2024 will assess each longlisted project by our international jury of leading professionals including Mina Hasman, Pooran Desai, Hélène Chartier, Henrik Taudorf Lorensen and Mae-ling Lokko.

Our 90 judges will decide which projects will be shortlisted, which will be announced in October. A further round of judging by our master jury will determine each winner, the overall project of the year winners, and the winner of the Bentley Lighthouse Award.
